The ACTS retreat is a catholic retreat led by lay ministers of a local parish. The acronym ACTS stands for Adoration, Community, Theology and Service . It has its roots in the Cursillo movement which began in Spain in the years between WWI and WWII and with the Methodist Walk to Emmaus Retreat. The ACTS Retreat sprang out of a need to strengthen participation in local Parish Communities.
1. to increase one's relationship with God
2. to evangelize and bring others to Christ
3. to build and strengthen parish communities
The elements of an ACTS retreat are:
About Humility, increasing ones relationship with God through a life of prayer.
About Evangelization, living and participating in the One Body of Christ beginning with the Parish.
About deepening relationship with God through studying scripture, discerning his will for discipleship, and living out our baptismal call.
About desiring to serve God and others in response to his Grace.
ACTS started in the Archdiocese of San Antonio, Texas in 1987. ACTS celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2017. ACTS Missions, Inc. iss a non-profit organization founded in 1997 to take the ACTS retreat experience to new parishes all over the world.
