My name is Father John Guzaldo and I am the pastor of St. Luke Catholic Church. Here is a brief biography of my life. I was born in Chicago, Ill in 1969 into a devout Catholic family. We were raised in a Catholic home and went to a Catholic school until I was eleven. In 1980 my family moved to San Marcos Texas and we/I have been a Texan ever since. I was raised in San Marcos and went to college there as well to be a school teacher. After college I taught in both public and Catholic schools (mostly public). I was your everyday History teacher and coach. I loved those days. In 1999, however, after seven years in the classroom and on the football and soccer fields, and after much time of discernment, I entered the seminary for the Catholic diocese of Austin.
After seven years of formation I was ordained a priest in 2006. My first assignment was at St. Helen’s in Georgetown, Texas. I was there for three wonderful years under the tutelage of Msgr. Louis Pavlicek. From there I spent one glorious year at St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School in Austin as a theology teacher as well as chaplain and campus minister. Following that year in 2010 I was named pastor of St. Louis Catholic Church in Waco where I spent eight years. Then in 2018 I was sent to Temple to pastor St. Luke. It has been a wonderful ride so far and I love it here in Temple. We have an amazing history and vibrant community. St. Luke is a parish where we evangelize, catechize and form missionary disciples to go out and spread the faith in word and deed.
If you are a visitor to this website and never been to our church I invite you to come by anytime. If you are already established as a parishioner of St. Luke and I can do anything for you don’t hesitate to contact me or any of my staff. I want to especially reach out to those of you who were once catholic and have felt Christ calling you home to his church. I also want to shout out to those who just stop coming for any reason to come back to the sacraments and Mother Church. God bless you all.
