“When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?” And the king will say to them in reply. “Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25:39-40
To make a difference in the lives of inmates by sharing our faith and showing compassion and love as instruments of God’s love and forgiveness.
Volunteers meet with a consistent small group and facilitate a Bible Study using the Catholic Serendipity Bible. Volunteers do not seek to be Bible scholars or teachers, but rather facilitate discussions on how the Scriptures apply to everyday life situations.
A volunteer applications must be submitted to the Texas Department of Corrections, and a criminal background check is completed by the TDC. Also, attendance at a 3-hour training course with the Texas Department of Corrections is mandatory prior to beginning this ministry. These sessions are held throughout the state.
Our goal is to meet in small Bible study discussion groups every Sunday for approximately an hour and a half, with one or two facilitators from St. Luke per group. In order to build a trusting relationship with the group members, continuity in facilitators is necessary.
